Plant Care: Monstera Thai Constellation
This plant is also known as the Variegated Monstera, is one of the most famous plants I have seen in the market in the previous months. It seems that gardeners and plant lovers can’t get enough of this beautiful plant. It belongs to the tropical plant empire, and its shrub climbs in an upward direction. It is famous for the reason the plant grows, and its leaves take different structures with unique marble (combination of cream and green) patterns. It grows up to six meters tall, while its leaves can stretch up to twelve inches.
Temperature
This plant loves a temperature from 18° to 21° Celsius (64°F − 70°F). If the temperature drops lower (17° to 11° Celsius) than the recommended one, the plant grows slower. Once it hits 10° Celsius and below, the plant stops growing altogether.
Fertilizers as Boosters
Using fertilizer for Monstera Thai Constellation once a month is the recommended interval. As much as possible, fertilize away from the base of the plant. Using the pellet or liquid type of fertilizer is also highly encouraged. Note that there is no need for you to put fertilizer on this plant during the cold season.
Humidity
The more humid the place is, the more the Monstera Thai Constellation grows. To help the plant get the needed humidity, doing some misting is encouraged. The suggested humidity is at 60% and above. If you notice the brown tips of leaves, it may indicate the plant receiving less humidity.
Soil Requirement
This plant grows in moist soil (from 5 to 7.5 pH). The use of bark and perlites to reinforce the plant’s organic matter and natural nutrients can also be a good idea. Keeping the soil moist during the summer and slightly dry during the cold season is the best soil practice for this plant.
Sun Exposure
This plant needs filtered sunlight. So, never put it directly under sunlight, for it can damage the leaves. The use of sheer curtains as a light filter works well in this situation. If indoor light is not possible, then artificial lights or indoor fluorescent may also work.
Watering Guide
It is a good habit to check the moisture level of the plant before watering. If the top two inches of the plant are dry, then it is time to water it. By doing so, you can prevent the usual occurrences of rotting roots due to over-watering. It is recommended that you water this plant once a week. If it is cold season, you may still reduce the watering schedule to once every nine to ten days.
Common Problems
Common problems encountered in planting Monstera Thai Constellation include root rot, mealybugs, spider mites, thrips, soft scales, and salt build-ups. A variety of factors can cause these. The best way to prevent these common problems from arising is by being observant about the general condition of the plant.
The Monstera Thai Constellation is so ready to give your home or office a light and comfy vibe. Just follow the tips presented here, and you’ll be a pro in raising these plants in no time! Good luck!
